KPD - Natural Gas Leak - 900 S Dayton St

Summary of Incident: At 10:53 this morning 78 year old Shirley A Davenport of Kennewick pulled into the parking lot of Columbia Industries. While parking her vehicle she somehow hit the gas pedal and went up and over the curb where her 2009 Hyundai Accent struck a gas regulator on the side of the building causing it to rupture. Kennewick Fire and Police Department were immediately dispatched and Cascade Natural Gas was contacted to stop and repair the leak. Traffic was rerouted around the immediate area.

Businesses and residents in about a three block area were evacuated and others given the option to evacuate or shelter in place. Those that were evacuated were temporarily housed at Kennewick High School. No injuries have been reported.

Traffic was blocked at 6th Ave and Dayton Street; 8th Ave and Everett St and 8th Ave and Auburn Streets for several hours but have been reopened.

As the accident took place on private property, no citations have been issued to the driver of the vehicle.
