KENNEWICK, WA - Close to 150 people did evacuate businesses and a childcare center Tuesday morning and went to the Lion's Den at Kennewick High School.

Businesses on South Dayton and 10th quickly evacuated their buildings after natural gas threatened to the area.

A staff member at Tri-Cities Residential Services saw the car run into the gas meter and instantly ran inside to tell everyone at work.

Tami LaDoux works at Tri-Cities Residential Services and described the scene,"we heard the gas, it was a very loud noise, that the gas made coming out... and then you could instantly smell the fumes".

The YMCA and Columbia Industries are right next door, they calmly took the lead of Tri Cities Residential and began to file out of the buildings. Adults and mostly children were invited into the Lions Den to wait it out.

Tami said, "the adults with developmental disabilities did an excellent job, none of them were scared and they just kind of like.. "oh this is fun!" and held onto hands and away they went".

Parents drove  by and scrambled to try and find exactly where their children were. Many that had evacuated wondered why the gas leak was not prepared with a safety valve as two hours passed and crews dug into the ground.
