Yakima Valley Greenway 2 Miles Away From Completing 20 Mile Pathway

Posted: Updated:
GLEED, WA. -- Need a good reason to get outside and exercise? The Yakima Greenway Foundation has laid down several new miles of pathway in Gleed.

The entire section was laid Wednesday morning but it's already dried and ready for you to come down with your bike or dog or to stretch your legs for a run.

Since work began Tuesday, thousands of tons of asphalt has been laid for this 4.2 mile extension. The Executive Director of the Greenway Foundation  says this new stretch adds to the growing number of outdoor activities around the Yakima Valley.

"People ride bicycles, they come out, they can walk," Al Brown, Executive Director of the Yakima Greenway Foundation said. "And our own community, we have an obesity problem in the Yakima Valley. The more outdoor recreational opportunities we have, the healthier we can become."

The Greenway now extends 18 miles and they aren't done yet. This is phase 4 of 5. All that's left to do is another two mile stretch that will be completed in 2016.

When that is finished, the Greenway will be 20 miles long connecting the depot in Naches to East Valley Mall Boulevard in Union Gap.
