NBCRightNow.com - A local Vietnam soldier has been missing in action since 1968. Now he'll have a special day in his honor.

To raise awareness of MIA soldiers the City of Ellensburg and Kittitas County are proclaiming tomorrow San D Francisco Day.

Major Francisco's family is only just beginning to learn about the details of their loved one's death after many years. We met with them when they first received documents with more information about his death, but they are still waiting for his remains to be recovered and brought to the U.S.

His family says they're not the only ones in this situation and they hope a day in his honor will bring awareness of all soldiers missing in action. Francisco graduated in 1966 from Central Washington and they'll be launching an awareness campaign at the homecoming game.

"This is quite an honor. We are very privileged to have the City of Ellensburg and Kittitas County be so overwhelmingly grateful for my brother's service," said sister Terri Francisco-Farrell.

Saturday at 1 pm over Tomlinson field 10 planes from the WA Blackjack Squadron will form the “missing man formation”. Francisco's family says there are 40 servicemen that have not returned from Washington State and they hope to soon change that number to 39 with the return of his remains.
