KENNEWICK, WA- Police warned drivers to follow detour signs while construction is underway at the five corners intersection.

Kennewick Police have been warning drivers to not break the detour rules since construction began last week.

The construction at the five corners intersection, close to where Clodfelter Road and 10th Avenue meet, and part of the Steptoe Street Expansion Project.

Police also warned drivers to be cautious and watch their speed when detouring through neighborhoods because school buses and kids are common in the area.

“We just want to remind people during that time to not try to shortcut through the barricades.  It is a traffic infraction.  They can be issued a citation and that citation is $124,” said Kennewick Police Officer Dan Todd.

There are no reports of accidents because of the construction and detours, but police will patrol the area carefully to make sure drivers follow the rules.

All five roads that lead to the five corners intersection are under construction.  The project is expected to finish in June of next year.
