Another Eisenhower HS Construction Project Gets Underway as Zaepfel Stadium Opening is in Doubt

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- Another construction project is now underway at Eisenhower High School and it has nothing to do with the current renovations at Zaepfel Stadium.

We've told you about the work going on to renovate Zaepfel Stadium. Well now construction is underway to build all kinds of new athletic facilities for the high school. They're building all kinds of structures, from track and field to baseball and softball.

This project is the final phase of the plan to overhaul Eisenhower High School. School officials say that when these athletic facilities are complete, they will be state of the art, just like the high school building.

"It's been so exciting," Jim Wright, Yakima Schools Planning Principle said. "It's just been a great experience to have this for the community in Yakima. As I always say, thank you again to all the voters, the supporters."

School officials are still hoping to complete the work on the new Zaepfel Stadium by that November 7th game between Davis and Ike. But recent bad weather has set them back. Putting that deadline in jeopardy.

So while work has just started for new softball and baseball fields, yards away workers are scrambling to put the finishing touches on Zaepfel. More rain could really put them in danger of missing their target opening.
