Proposition 14-7 Informational Meeting at Hanford Reach

Posted: Updated:
BENTON COUNTY, WA - People got a chance to learn more about Proposition 14-7 tonight at the Hanford Reach. The measure would help preserve natural habitat and create access to recreation spaces in Benton County.

Property tax revenue would buy open spaces and park land, preserve agricultural land, conserve wildlife habitat and provide more outdoor recreation areas.

If the measure passes it would cost the average homeowner in Benton County $12 a year for the next ten years.

"Through the success of Badger Mountain and the heavy use that that's getting we see that citizens really do want access to land, they want those trails, they want to be able to have the kind of events that access provides so that really is what's going to be the value of this," said Sharon Grant, a member of Our County, Our Future's steering committee.

Proposition 14-7 will be on the November 4th ballot and needs a majority vote to pass. However it's just an advisory vote, which means the county commissioners would have to approve the measure and finalize it.
