JUST ASK SHANE: Update on Olympia St. Road Construction

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - Judging by my inbox, a lot of you are frustrated about a Kennewick road project that never seems to end.  Jenni sent me an email this week asking, "When is the road work on Olympia Street going to be done?  I thought they said October, but it's almost the end of the month and it looks like there's a lot of work left."

Jenni's right.  They originally told us this project would be done in October, but crews are still working out on the site.  The city's public works department told me that they now plan to pave the last section of Olympia Street from 27th avenue to 45th avenue during the first two weeks of November, as long as the weather cooperates.  They want to pave the whole stretch at one time, so they're finishing up all the prep work first.

The city says they know you're frustrated, but this was a complex project with a lot of elements.  Crews widened the roadway and added a center turn lane from 27th avenue all the way to SR 397.  They also added new sidewalks, and a roundabout at the intersection with 45th avenue.  The city says the contractor has done a good job, and is still within the number of days they allotted for the project.
