RICHLAND, WA- Dog owners got into the Halloween spirit Saturday and dressed up with their furry pals to march in the first ever “Pooch and Their Person Costume Parade" at John Dam Plaza.

It was Richland Parks and Recreation's first time hosting the event.

Anyone with a dog could participate with a donation of a bag of dog food to donate to Pet Over Population.

Parks and Recreation officials wanted people to know there are outdoor activities for their dogs too.

“We're just bringing awareness to all the great parks that we have here in Richland.  They're not just for humans.  We have a great dog park as well.  Just want to make sure everyone knows where we're at and our trails are awesome,” said Carmen Garcia, Richland Parks and Recreation Coordinator.

Pets and their owners dressed up as superheroes, TV characters, and even desserts like banana splits.

After the parade, people gathered for prizes for the most creative pooch, most creative person, or combination of both.
