RICHLAND, WA- A local group made sure the homeless stay warn this season and hiked Badger Mountain Saturday to raise funds.

It was the first ever Hike for the Homeless to raise funds for Ken and Theresa's Place, a Tri-Cities Day Shelter.

Organizers decided to have the event because they saw there was a growing need for items in the shelter to provide for the homeless and they thought this ideas was different from others.

“Dinners and auctions are done a lot, so I wanted to do something that was going to be a little bit more accessible to the everybody person, would be fun, and accessible to the everyday person, would be fun, and could involve families, and just be a little different,” said Renae Quigley, event coordinator.

Nearly 40 people on average everyday are helped at the shelter and that number is expected to grow as the colder temperatures arrive.

They hoped the hike Saturday would help the shelter.
