Filipino Community In Wapato Celebrates Annual Harvest Dinner

Posted: Updated:
WAPATO, WA.- October is Filipino American history month and the community in Wapato celebrated with their annual harvest dinner Sunday afternoon.

The dinner aims to raise money for the local Filipino community and share their culture with those in the Yakima Valley.

Event organizer Dori Baker says bridging cultures and connecting with the community is their main goal.

“This is a gathering place for friends and family that haven't seen each other for a long time. Families will say I'll see you at the harvest dinner and it's like a big family reunion where we reminisce,” Baker told KNDO.

Organizers prepared an ethnic Filipino dinner for nearly one thousand people and held a silent auction.

The Filipino community is working toward making the harvest dinner banquet hall a historical landmark.
