RICHLAND, WA- Picketers held signs Monday by the Uptown Mall in Richland to rally against the Academy of Cosmetology.

Protestors held up signs that claimed former students were unfairly treated while attending the school.

The protest idea was started by Tracy Chavers who said her daughter took classes at the Academy of Cosmetology a couple years ago and complained of unfair treatment like verbal abuse and time clock fraud.

Chavers wished she had taken action when it was first happened, but wants it to all end now, after another former student Jennifer Nelson, recently filed a lawsuit against the academy.

"If I had taken a better stand a few years ago maybe people like Jennifer and these other students wouldn't have had to gone through what my daughter went through," said Chavers.

Chavers organized the protest to bring awareness to her daughter's situation so that it does not happen to anyone else.

KNDU tried to reach the school, but they were closed and no one returned calls.  KNDU will try again to get the school's reaction to the situation.
