KENNEWICK, WA - Police arrested 18-year-old Adan Landin Barajas Tuesday morning at Southridge High School after officers found a realistic replica BB gun in his car on school property.

At 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, two students told the resource officer they saw Barajas show his replica black revolver in the parking lot on Monday after school. Administrators immediately put the campus into a lock down that lasted ten to fifteen minutes.

Riley Hebdon is a freshman at Southridge, she told NBC Right Now, "The principal came on the intercom and he just said that we are having a lock down and I wasn't aware that it was a real lock down. I thought it was a fake (practice) lockdown. So we just went through the procedure, shut all the blinds and then got on the floor in the dark."

Students were surprised to find out this lockdown was not a drill. Some of them did not even know about the incident until I talked to them. Kennewick Police say they advised the school go into lockdown until officers took Barajas into custody and recovered the weapon from his car.

Daniel Cancado, a sophomore at the school, said, "I thought the teachers did a really good job, got rid of it pretty quick I guess too. It was pretty long but I guess considering since it was legit, they got rid of it pretty quick. I thought everybody did a good job."

Kennewick Police are applauding these kids, saying they did the right thing by reporting Barajas. At this point police say no one was "in imminent threat of harm". NBC Right Now reached out to the Kennewick School District spokesperson for an interview but she refused to go on camera. Instead, KSD sent out a statement saying the administration, staff and students performed a smooth lockdown just as they have practiced before.

Barajas was booked into the Benton County Jail for possession of a weapon on school property.
