RSD Makes Minor Changes to Proposed School Boundaries

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - The Richland School Board has made some minor revisions to new proposed school boundaries.

The board requested that the committee look at reducing the populations at both White Bluffs Elementary and the new elementary school that is under construction in south Richland to allow for future growth in these areas.

The board also requested that the population at Badger Mountain Elementary be increased closer to capacity as growth in Badger's boundary is limited.

Changes posted to the district's website include:

1. Move the students living east of Leslie Road and north of Gage Blvd. that are currently bused to Badger Mountain Elementary School, to Lewis and Clark Elementary School.

2. Keep the Jefferson Elementary School at its current North position along Sprout Street.

3. Move the students living west of the by-pass highway off Duportail St. from Lewis and Clark to Sacajawea.

4. Keep the Meadow Springs and the Orchard Hills Apt. Communities at Badger Mountain rather than placing them at the new elementary school.

5. Move the Regency Park Apartments behind the Queensgate Target as well as the Hill's Community Mobile Home Park to Marcus Whitman Elementary School.

Board members are now working on redrawing the boundary map and will still need to vote on it at the next school board meeting.
