NBC RIGHT NOW-- It is almost time to take to the streets for trick-or-treating, and parents need to keep in mind the safety of their children while they are out at night.

Staff at Safe Kids Worldwide said kids are twice as likely to get hit by a car on Halloween than any other time of the year and give a few tips on how your little trick-or-treaters can stay safe while out at night.

They said buy some glow sticks.  You can have them anywhere, they come apart in little pieces, and you can put them together. Plus they inexpensive, easy to find and they make you child visible.

Get a flashlight if you do not already have one, and parents this is a good idea for you too if you are walking around with your kids. It is just another way for drivers to see you and your kids walking around in the dark.

They also said use reflective tape because that can go a long way.  You can cut it up, make it part of your child's costume and again adds that extra bit of visibility.  You can also you can add it to trick or treat bags as well.

Put it is not just parents and kids who need to be on the look out, drivers need to as well.  Always look for pedestrians and kids walking around dark streets and do not race through neighborhoods because you never know when a child might run across the street to get to the next house.
