PASCO, WA - Kenyatta Bridges is accused of murder in one of the recent Pasco shooting cases but in court today his lawyer presented some information he thinks could get the case dismissed.

Bridge's defense lawyer is filing a motion for government misconduct. He says a Pasco detective threatened his client. Bridges and his wife Mary Faucet were wanted before Christmas in connection with the gang shooting that claimed the life of Lorenzo Fernandez Jr. After they were found in Spokane on Christmas they hired local lawyers.

Defense Attorney Scott Johnson says a Pasco detective admitted to calling his clients before their court appearances and telling them they quote “really screwed up hiring a lawyer.”

"We should be able to defend the case without having to worry about the police department after they've told someone has a lawyer, threatening them because they got a lawyer. That just throws the whole system on it's head," said Johnson.

Bridges entered a not guilty plea Friday morning in court.  When he requested his one million dollar bail be reduced, prosecutors pointed to his criminal history of assault convictions and not appearing in court. When they claimed Bridges was fleeing jurisdiction going to Spokane with his wife, his wife actually spoke up from the audience saying they were going home. Faucet also faces charges related to the shooting death.

Officers from the Pasco Police Department tell me the defense attorney's threat statement this morning in court was not accurate and more will come to light as the trial progresses.
