Perry Technical Institute Hosts "New Year New Career" Open House

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.-  The Perry technical Institute in Yakima hosted their first weekend open house on Friday, where they hoped not only students from the Yakima Valley would come out, but also perspective students from across the country.

Perry Tech has been helping students learn trades and build careers for 75 years.

They have around 700 currently enrolled, but Perry Tech President Christine Cote told us they've seen a 96% increase in student enrollment over the past 10 years.

“We're just excited to have such a great turn out and it really is an indication that this is our future, technical schools are going to be important to our future,” Cote told KNDO.

President Barak Obama's new proposal that would allow students to attend community college for the first two years tuition free has left many people excited.

Cote told KNDO she hopes to see the proposal take off and eventually be applied to technical trade schools as well.

She told us 91% of Perry Tech grads go on to find employment in their field of study.

Students told us Perry Techs first ever weekend open house was a success and they saw a larger number of perspective students than they've seen at past events.

“We see people from all over the United States even different countries, Europe even, which is crazy but it's very exciting,” Perry Tech Alum Andrew Hilyard told KNDO.

The open house wrapped up at 1 on Saturday, but you can still check out all of the different career options they have to offer by checking out their website.
