RICHLAND, WA - The Richland School District is making some major changes this year. Besides the actual movement of school boundaries there could be more kindergarten for kids.

Smaller class sizes and expanding towards full day kindergarten classes could cost millions alone but the school district has been preparing. With the construction of new schools and using money already in the budget they hope to get some of these goals accomplished.

Superintendent Rick Schulte told NBC Right Now Tuesday that in his career starting out as a kindergarten teacher he thinks this early schooling could give students a better start to their education.

"The changes in the kindergarten curriculum have been enormous over the last 10-20 even 30 years. Kindergarten used to be more directed at a lot of different play experience and socializing. There's a lot more academic content in it now."

Richland already has full day kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary and Schulte explains those students are noticeably more advanced in the classroom. The Richland School Board was scheduled to discuss this new business during Tuesday night's meeting.
