YAKIMA, WA-- Yakima's Gang Free Initiative will see some changes coming soon.

At Tuesday's meeting, city council members decided to change how the organization is managed.

The GFI's goal is to prevent teens and kids from getting involved in gang-activity in our area through outreach projects.

It was originally managed by an outside contracted agency, now it will be absorbed into Yakima City Council Public Safety Committee and managed by its Gang Initiative Manager.

Council members said this change will provide transparency and reduces redundancies of processes, but it will not reduce community participation in the advisory group.
