Gas Prices, a Blast From the Past

Posted: Updated:

NBCRightNow.com - Can you remember what you were doing 10 years ago?

Most of us can answer yes to that question, but do you remember what you paid for gas back then?

If you answered yes to that question, then you are probably having flashbacks when you head to the pumps these days.

Wednesday, NBC Right Now found gas as low as $1.94 a gallon.

So when was the last time you saw gas prices this low?

"It's been probably 10 years or more to my knowledge," Pam Cole said.

"Probably about when I first started driving, like eight years ago when I was like 16, it's been a long time," explained Damon Alvarez.

Now rewind to 2005, these gas customers were not so happy.

"Last summer, I was shocked when it was $2  a gallon and now its $2.53 and soon it'll be three and eventually we'll be paying five bucks a gallon and we'll just get used to it," explained one man back in 2005.

Well while we did not quite make it to $5 a gallon, he is right.

Gas over the last 10 years just kept rising.

Now flashback again, this time to 2001, the good ole days, gas was at $1.08 in, then rose to about $1.30 in 2002.

Then by 2006, a big jump! gas prices at nearly $3.

So for now, we will count our blessings.

"It's not such a big pinch to the pocket anymore," Cole said.

"It's really nice to see it like this, I hope it stays this low or if not gets any lower," Alvarez concluded.

Washingtongasprices.com says we have about 20 gas stations under $2 in the Tri-Cities.
