Arrest Made In Nearly 20 Year Old Cold Case

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- In 1997 Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call just outside of Naches, they found a woman in a car shot in the head.

The case was went cold, but almost 20 years later new evidence led to an arrest.

Barry Beckford, formally known as Barry Bailey, was brought in as a suspect and charged with first-degree murder for the death of Deborah Bailey.

Last September producers from the TNT show "Cold Justice" called Yakima Sheriff's Deputies looking for a story.

The sheriff's office says the fresh set of eyes looking over the evidence is what helped them reopen the case.

“It was investigated by our detectives, with the fresh perspective and maybe outside thoughts and understanding of the people involved with the cold justice program,” Mike Russell with the Sheriff's Office told KNDO.

Sixty-year-old Barry Beckford was arrested in Idaho on January 13th.

His bail is set at a quarter of a million dollars.

TNT's "cold justice" will air their show on this reopened cold case tonight at eight.
