Rain and Cold Weather Doesn't Put A Damper On Local Hop Fest

ELLENSBURG, WA.- Even today's cold, rainy weather couldn't keep crowds away from downtown Ellensburg; they hosted their 11th annual Winter Hop Fest and welcomed over 20 local breweries.

Organizers told us the event sells out weeks in advance and this year they sold 1600 tickets and expect over 2000 people to come out and experience Ellensburg's small town charm.

The event helps their normally slow winter tourism season pick up. They see people from all over the Yakima Valley, Tri-Cities, and even neighboring states come to the event.

We spoke with one man who came all the way from California to check out the local hops and shops.

“I think it's cool that a lot of the venues aren't just beer places so you can actually experience a lot of the local shops too,” Ryan Vande Wydeven told KNDO.

The Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce CEO Jim Armstrong told us the event is always appreciated by their local businesses.

“It's a real shot in the arm economically for our local businesses here in downtown Ellensburg and for our motels and others as well,” Armstrong said.

The Hop Fest started around noon on Saturday and wrapped up at five, but you can still come out any day of the week and support your local businesses, Ellensburg certainly has plenty of them.
