Clearwater Ave. & Columbia Center Blvd. Crash Caused by Driver Inattention

KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick Police say a driver who ran a red light caused a crash at a busy intersection Monday night.

It happened around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Clearwater Avenue and Columbia Center Boulevard.

Police say the driver of a subaru wagon was heading west on Clearwater when she ran a red light, hitting an SUV that was heading south on Columbia Center Boulevard.

The SUV ended up on its side.

Police say the driver that ran the red light was not paying attention.

"It's just really important to pay attention. Sometimes you might see that a light is green but if you look down for just a couple of seconds its already turned to red. So just make sure your always paying attention especially in busy intersections like this. We've had a lot of cars driving around and it just takes a split second for something to happen," says Officer Holly Baynes with the Kennewick Police Department.

One person in the SUV had minor injuries.

The crash clogged up the evening commute for about an hour as crews cleared the scene.
