People in Hermiston Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Posted: Updated:
HERMISTON, OR - People at the United Methodist Church in Hermiston held a ceremony to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday.

The event started with a Peace Walk sponsored by the Hermiston Black International Awareness Club.

Afterward, the Elders of the church and other Pastors of the community shared their thoughts on what it was like growing up during the civil rights movement and how they have seen the vision of Dr. King take hold around them.

"Having a good look I have seen a snip it of the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King. I look around and I see white faces, brown faces, black faces... And what I see is a common thread that runs through all of them," says Pastor Albert Wilkins of Morning Star Baptist Church.

About 100 people took part in Monday's event.
