YAKIMA, WA-- If you fly out of the Yakima airport frequently, you may sometimes get frustrated at how few flights there are per day. Those flights only go to Seattle, so if you are trying to head anywhere else it can be a bit stressful.

However, it looks like those days might be over as there may be more flights options coming to the regional airport.

The goal established by the City of Yakima to increase the number of passengers flying in and out of the Yakima airport in 2014 has been met and exceeded, which means they could a fourth flight.

Last year's target for the "load factor" was 75 percent. The load factor is how many seats are filled on flights to and from an airport.

Last year that number came in at 76 percent, which means about 3,000 more people flew in and out of the Yakima airport than did in 2013.

The Yakima airport is served by only one commercial airline, which is Horizon Air.

Last year, representatives of the airline's parent company, Alaska Airlines, told city officials that it is considering adding a fourth flight to Portland out of Yakima.

More discussions between the city and Alaska Airlines about boosting the number of flights in and out of Yakima are expected to take place during the next few months.
