KENNEWICK, WA- Officers warn people about the dangers of driving in heavy fog.

Law enforcement said when the visibility does drop, drivers should slow down, watch for other cars, and also pedestrians.

Troopers suggested staying in the right lane, as well.

They said if you cannot see forward because of the lights of an oncoming car, look at the left front tire as a guide.

Troopers also suggest keeping a good distance between yourself and the car in front of you.

"In normal everyday driving, we want to be four seconds behind somebody or one vehicle length for every mile per hour.  You probably want to double that when it's foggy conditions so you don't get yourself bound up when the vehicle ahead of you stops," said Trooper David Brandt, Washington State Patrol.

Troopers also said to make sure to use the low beam instead of the high beam lights.
