One Man Is Dead After Car Hits Him On State Route 241

SUNNYSIDE, WA.- If you were out on the roads Saturday night you saw the almost blinding fog covering the roads, unfortunately it caused one accident that left a man dead right outside of Sunnyside.

The blinding fog Saturday night made driving tricky to say the least, but around 6 this morning a car struck and killed a man walking in the middle of the road on State Route 241, about six miles north of Sunnyside.

Troops say 45-year-old Heriberto Castro was driving northbound Sunday morning, when he hit and killed 67-year-old Juan Gutierrez.

State Patrol was called out to the scene. They say it appears Gutierrez was walking in the middle of the road when the car hit him.

At this time they don't believe it was suspicious in nature but simply a tragic accident.

“At about 6:19 when it happened it was still dark real poor visibility and the driver couldn't see and unfortunately struck him,” State Trooper Erik Magmussen told KNDO.

Trooper Magmussen wants to warn people to be cautious while driving in the fog and any severe weather conditions, it might sound simple but reducing your speed and paying extra close attention to surroundings could save a life.

The case is still under investigation; at this time they don't know if drugs or alcohol were involved.
