Yakima Ice Rink Hosted Charity Event

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- There has been a for sale sign outside the Yakima skating rink for months now, leaving many people to believe it's closed down, but this weekend hockey teams from all over the state came to Yakima to raise money for a good cause and promote the ice rink.

The Yakima ice rink is completely run by volunteers, they offer skating instruction programs for adults and children, but because of their location many people don't know that Yakima provides a place for figure skating and hockey.

Event organizer Nathan Coppock told us hosting this charity event was a wonderful way to not only promote awareness for the rink but also give back and show the many ways the ice rink can contribute to the community.

“Our goal was to show what the rink can do to give back to the community while we do some fundraising for a new rink,” Nathan Coppock told KNDO.

Teams hit the ice all weekend, they told us they had a great turn out and were able to raise money for both the Yakima Amateur Hockey Association and the Yakima Wellness House, which provides support and resources for individuals with cancer or other life altering illnesses.

They hope the tournament will continue next year and attract more people from across the state.
