Pasco Voting Boundary Changes to Include Two Majority Hispanic Districts

Posted: Updated:
PASCO, WA - The Pasco City Council Monday night narrowed the proposed voting district changes down to three options.

All options presented would include two majority Hispanic districts.

Council members say a recent court ruling in favor of the ACLU in Yakima played a major role in choosing the possible redistricting plans.

City Manager Dave Zabell says he doesn't expect Pasco will have to face the problems that Yakima has, because Pasco has five voting districts while Yakima has only three.

By City Code, population within each district must not vary by more than 10% from other districts.

District boundaries are currently set based on voting precinct boundaries established by the Franklin County Auditor.

The city council will hold another public hearing Monday, February 23rd at 7 p.m. on the proposed changes.

Council members hope to have the new districts in place by March 2nd.
