WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Starting in February, the Walla Walla Police Department will be on the lookout for distracted drivers.

They say they're adding extra patrols to look out for people who are talking, texting, or surfing the web on their phones while behind the wheel.

The city of Walla Walla says 25% of fatal crashes here in Washington state happen because drivers aren't paying attention. From 2010 through 2013, Washington law enforcement agencies investigated 473 fatal crashes that were caused by distracted drivers.

All drivers are reminded: keep your eyes on the road and stay off your phone.
