Authorities say jail staff placed the inmate under more supervision after noticing the man in an "abnormally deep sleep," at about 7 a.m.

Police say  the man's vital signs were dropping during a check at 8:35 a.a.m.nd called the Kennewick Fire Department.

The inmate was taken to the emergency room at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland to be treated.

The man has been medically sedated while hospital staff try to figure out what is wrong with him.

Authorities suspect the man may have taken opiates before his arrest.
