Super Bowl Impact Reaches Far Past Arizona, Local Business Get Spike in Sales

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA. -- As you likely already know by now, the Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 49. But the impact of the game extended much further than where the game was played in Arizona.

Any store selling any kind of Seahawks memorabilia did very well, even on the day of the big game. Other stores also saw business spike in our area, especially ones offering a beast mode size meal.

The game is over and while the Seahawks aren't number one anymore, they're still number one in the hearts and cash registers of local businesses.

"Our weekend was absolutely insane," Deanna Madrigal, Operations Manager of Let's Party said. "We were so busy starting on Thursday all the way through Sunday."

The Hawks certainly gave many of us a reason to cheer at our TV screens each weekend. For local stores owners they were cheering their sales numbers.

"It was like a Christmas all over again," Madrigal said. "It kept us super busy. We had to hire extra employees. We had to be here at late hours you know to keep busy. But it was fantastic."

Let's Party wasn't alone. Red Apple Markets on South Washington Street thanks the Seahawks for packing their stores with extra hungry customers.

"We saw about a 10% increase going into the weekend," store owner Mike Mellis said. "And actually on Super Bowl Sunday we showed a 30% increase on that day."

No food was safe from local Super Bowl parties.

"They were buying hot wings, sauce, party chips, sodas, beer," Mellis said. "It really makes a different when the Hawks are in the playoffs and the Super Bowl."

At Let's Party, they've taken a very diplomatic approach.. Also offering some merchandise of the new Super Bowl Champion Patriots. But being a Hawks fan, all Deanna can talk about is what happened on that fateful throw from Russell Wilson.

"I don't know, I think Russell Wilson should have just ran for it," Madrigal said. "But that's just my opinion."

Maybe if he had then our stores would have had some Super Bowl Championship gear to get excited for. Oh well.

Even though the Seahawks lost the Super Bowl, Deanna says let's party isn't forgetting the team.. During Valentines Day, they plan to put up a Seattle colored banner that says "Thank You Hawks".
