Commuter Train Crashes into Stuck SUV on Tracks in New York Killing at Least 7 People

VALHALLA, NY - At least seven people have been killed after a commuter train crashed into an SUV stuck on the tracks at a crossing in New York. 

The driver of the SUV and six people aboard the Metro-North train were killed. 

At least 12 others were injured. 

It happed in Valhalla, about 20 miles north of New York City. 

A Metro-North spokesman says the crossing gates had come down on top of the SUV, which was stopped on the tracks. 

The driver got out to look at the rear of the vehicle, got back in and drove forward and was struck. 

The front of the train and the SUV caught fire. 

More than 750 people were aboard the train at the time of the crash.

Passengers described a bump and said they smelled gasoline from the vehicle.
