Posted: Updated:
NEW INFORMATION:  Pasco Police Detectives are learning of additional witnesses who were in the Fiesta Foods parking lot last night at around 8:40 pm when the fatal shooting took place. Some of those witnesses left before police could gather details from them. Officers are asking that they call detectives at 509-545-3421 if they have information.

"We're learning there were a number of witnesses that left the scene before law enforcement arrived so we're just trying to run  them down to see if they have any details that could be important to the investigation," Sgt. Scott Warren, Pasco Police Department, said.

NBC Right Now did speak with Melgoza's family at their home Wednesday.

Melgoza's sister says they cannot believe this would happen.

Melgoza is the middle child of six. He was born in Texas and the family moved to Pasco in 1988.

They have been getting a lot of support from many of Melgoza's close friends.

Melgoza's sister told KNDU her brother did have encounters with police.

NBC Right Now found out he did have criminal record, including four felonies, one of them dating back to his teenage years for possession of narcotics

KNDU also found three gross misdemeanors for assault and DUI. Plus 13 misdemeanors mostly for driving without a license.

UPDATE:  NBC Right Now can now confirm 42 year-old Juan Melgoza was shot and killed in front of Fiesta Foods Wednesday night.

Officers tell us the suspects are two Hispanic males in their late teens/early 20's. They were last seen wearing blue hoodie jackets. Based off of surveillance video and what witnesses tell police Melgoza had just been standing in front of the store appearing to not be doing anything for a short time. It's unclear whether there was a verbal exchange before the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots. Pasco Police are putting together more details and we'll have those for you when they're available.
