JUST ASK SHANE: What is Queensgate Gardens?

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - Some inquiring minds have been filling my inbox lately with questions about some new construction happening in south Richland.  Karla sent me an email asking, "There is something going up in the Queensgate area called 'Queensgate Gardens.'  Do you know what that is?"

Karla, I talked with the owners of Queensgate Gardens this week.  They're Brian and Cathy Keele, and they're opening a new greenhouse & nursery at the corner of Queensgate Drive and Jericho Road.  They started construction in January, and hope to have the nursery open in mid-March.

The Keeles have been growing plants and flowers in their greenhouse on Red Mountain Road for the last few years, and selling them at a stand in front of Tony Roma's.  This new nursery is the next step in the growth of their love for gardening.

"It started as a hobby for us, and it just continued to grow as it went.  It's a lot of fun to see the seed sprout and then bloom beautifully, and then you can present it in a Mother's Day basket. It's very exciting," said Cathy Keele.

The Keeles plan to open a fruit and vegetable stand on the property this summer, selling locally grown produce.  They're also planning to add a gift shop in the near future that will feature items from local artists.
