KIONA-BENTON CITY, WA - The Kiona-Benton City School District released this response after failing to pass a capital levy in the recent special election.

STATEMENT REGARDING LEVY RESULTS

Obviously, the Board of Directors is disappointed with the outcome of our recent capital levy vote. Our intent in putting forth the ballot proposition was to improve learning conditions for our students by providing the necessary space to house our growing community.

The voters have spoken, however, and we respect their decision. The Board and District administrative staff pledge their united and unceasing efforts toward overcoming the difficulties that the levy failure is certain to create in the near future. We are not a group which is prone to "crying over spilt milk," as it were. We intend to move forward in a positive manner.

Despite the outcome, we believe there is genuine support in the community for the direction that our District has been moving and the learning environment we have been creating for our kids. Low voter turnout was probably more important to the outcome of this election than the real attitude of our constituents. When this issue is next before the voters, we will redouble our efforts to get the word out regarding the value which the proposal will bring to the community.
