Gas Prices On The Rise

KENNEWICK, WA- Prices at the pump have been nice lately, but in the past few days we've been seeing those prices go up. Average prices in the Tri-Cities on Wednesday were around the mid to high $1.80's and over in Yakima everyone is looking at just over $2.00 a gallon.

The big question is, is it going to last?

"If they get higher, I'm gonna stay at home. Just go to the store, you know, do normal things but no long drives," explained Daniel Vargas who was pumping gas.

Historically speaking, gas prices rise in the summer due to demand. Economists regularly use that process to explain the increase.

"Well, I think they've come up a little but more. I wish they'd come down, but I know that people are paying more in other places," said consumer Joy Simmons.

Just back in October, consumers were happy to see prices below $3.00 around Kennewick.

"I'm from Burbank, but it's so cheap that you might as well come here", explained Patty Para back in October of 2014.

This time last year, gas was well over $3.00 a gallon and everyone was calling that, low.

Vargas explained, "I came from Hermiston. (Gas) is more expensive down here. If gas prices go up, I probably won't be taking in vacations, I can't afford it."

With plenty of experts calling for the rise, we will not know exactly how high they will get, until summer rolls around.

Simmons said, "Numbers are gonna get higher. I mean everybody goes on vacation and usually it's a bit higher. But, hopefully it will stay the same and everybody will be able to enjoy their summer."

The gas price crash has turned around due to a rebound in the price of crude oil.

Prices at the pump rose less than crude prices so analysts expect a rise in gas prices by about five to 10 cents over the next several days.
