Coffee With A Cop Bridges Gap Between Residents And Officers

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- The Yakima Police Department invited the community to come to McDonalds on South First Street Thursday morning to share a cup of coffee and meet some of the men and woman who keep our city safe.

The majority of contact people have with our officers is during emergencies, so their hope was to bridge that gap and create more of a relationship with local residents.

Chief of police Dominic Rizzi told KNDO they had a much larger turn out than he'd anticipated.

“We're getting a great diverse group of people coming in. We're getting some young individuals coming in who would like to find out about being an officer, elderly who have questions about the community, and everyone in between,” Rizzi told KNDO.

Coffee with a cop is something police departments across the country are trying out; this is the first time Yakima police have tried out this one on one meet and greet.
