2 Children Injured After Shots Fired At House

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- There are still plenty of questions surrounding the shooting Sunday night on the 100th block of Union Street in Yakima, which put two children in the hospital.

KNDO spoke with a witness who heard the shots and saw the suspect running down the street.

At the time of the shooting six children were in the home, along with several adults.

One of the shots went through the wall and hit two children. The bullet grazed the stomach of an 11-year-old girl and badly shattered a 7-year-old boy's arm.

Both children are in stable condition, but they were transported to Harborview in Seattle.

Jimmy Bautista lives across the street, he says he and his brother heard the shots and immediately ran outside.

“He told my dad he's like I hear gunshots, and I get up immediately, I thought they were shooting at our house again, because of last year what happened to us and I immediately get up run outside and see what's going on,” Bautista explained.

Last year on Christmas Eve Bautista told us his own home; just across the street from last nights shooting was shot at, leaving his mother injured.

“I just see my mom on the couch bleeding right there on the floor, just the blood splattered on the floor,” Bautista told KNDO.

He told me that after they rushed outside he saw someone running down the street in a hooded jacket, he was unable to tell if the suspect was male or female.

Police told us another witness saw the suspect hanging around the home for a while before the shots were fired.

”The suspect was sitting on the curb across the street from the house for quite some time and then just got up and fired 2 rounds into the house,” police spokesperson Mike Bastinelli told KNDO.

At this time police are looking into possible motives for the shooting, they are unsure if it was gang related but they are investigating all possible angles.

Witnesses described the suspect as thin around 5'9'' and wearing a light plaid colored jacket.
