Man Buys New Car And Has It Stolen One Day Later

YAKIMA, WA.- People reporting that their cars have been stolen happens everyday, but how often do you hear of someone buying a car and then having it stolen not even day later?

Darrion Strayhorn lives here in Yakima and this past Wednesday purchased a 1999 Honda Passport, but then not even a day later he came home and in broad day light someone had stolen it.

He hadn't even had time to buy insurance for his new vehicle before it was stolen.

Strayhorn told KNDO he was shocked that on a crowded, busy street, in broad daylight someone would just take his car.

“To me it seemed impossible to steal a car in the daylight especially with all the college kids around and neighbors, but it was pretty shocking to me for the car to be stolen during the day,” Strayhorn said.

But oddly enough Strayhorn told us he found his car on Saturday, several streets down from his home.

The only thing stolen from the car was the stereo system and he told us the gas tank was empty.

Police are still investigating; they took fingerprints from the vehicle.

This story ended in a happy ending, but it's certainly a cautionary tale to take care and keep an eye on your car, even in broad day light.
