Benton City Family Loses Remodeled Home In Fire

BENTON CITY, WA- A Benton City family lost their home Tuesday after it caught on fire.

The family was staying next door during a remodel, and could not do anything but watch it burn. They told investigators they lost $60,000.00 and their newly remodeled home is completely destroyed.

NBC Right Now arrived at the home off of Demoss Road just after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning and flames were still burning through the roof.

Someone passing by ran up to the home next door to tell the owners it was on fire and call 911.   Firefighters said they had to "overhaul" the house by cutting the walls down with a chain saw since no one could get inside.

"What we have been told is that the house was vacant when it caught on fire. So we don't believe anybody was injured. As soon as we get a chance we're gonna go in there and start our investigation," explained Sgt. Erik Magnuson.

Sgt. Magnuson said they investigate causes of any fire, but especially when over $10,000.00 has been lost. Right now they're not ruling out foul play but also are not making any assumptions on what actually started the fire.
