Dozens Gather In Support Of President Obama's Immigration Plan

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- Dozens gathered outside Congressman Dan Newhouse's office in Yakima Tuesday to rally in support of the president's immigration plans.

The protesters are hoping to stop congress from voting to split up families and instead create a policy that leaves no family left behind.

KNDO was able to catch up with Congressman Newhouse Tuesday afternoon to get his opinion on the immigration policy.

He told us he wants to fix the "broken" immigration system but believes there needs to be a more long term solution than Obama's short term plan.

“It really kind of puts these people in legal limbo. It's really only offering a short-term solution to a very complex set of problems,” Newhouse told KNDO.

Congressman Newhouse told us he's hoping to find a long term solution for children of undocumented immigrants who were brought here by no fault of there own, and create a stable workforce for people who immigrated legally.

Newhouse told us he shares much of the frustration residents feel towards the immigration system; he agrees it isn't working and says he's committed to finding a long term solution, hopefully in the months to come.
