JUST ASK SHANE: What is that "mystery" building on Longfibre Ave. in Union Gap?

Posted: Updated:
UNION GAP, WA - If you've noticed a big new building sprouting up in Union Gap, you're not alone.  Rosemary sent me an email asking, "We are curious about the new construction underway at the intersection of Ahtanum Road and Longfibre Avenue.  Can you enlighten us?"

Yes Rosemary, I can.  The building will soon become the Washington Department of Ecology's new regional headquarters.  The department announced last fall that they're leaving their current location in downtown Yakima, and will soon move their operations to this new 36,000 square-foot complex.

I spoke with regional director Tom Tebb and he says construction crews are right on schedule, and the mild winter is actually helping to move things along.  The new building will be environmentally friendly, LEED certified, and energy efficient with electric vehicle charging stations and solar panels.  They hope to move into the new building at the end of June, and plan to hold an open house for the public later this summer.
