Posted: Updated:
The following is a statement from the Pasco School District:

"Pasco School District received a report of inappropriate contact with a child by a Maya Angelou Elementary School custodian on Jan. 21, 2015. The District immediately placed the individual on administrative leave and reported the allegation to the Pasco Police Department. On Feb. 18 Pasco School District was notified by the Pasco Police Department that the individual had been arrested. A letter was sent home to Angelou families informing them of the issue on Feb. 19. The District will continue to cooperate with law enforcement throughout the criminal investigation.

While we make no judgments of guilt at this time, if true, the allegations represent a breach of our trust and a disappointing departure from our standards for all district employees.  Safety of our students is the highest priority of our school and district staff.

Angelou Elementary parents with questions should contact Angelou Elementary Principal Diana Cissne at 543-6748. Those who believe they have information related to the investigation should contact Pasco Police.

Due to the seriousness of the allegations, and to respect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, the Pasco School District will not be providing any additional information.  Media outlets should direct any further questions to law enforcement."
