Yakima Valley Community College Gives Kids A Hands On Science Experience

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- Yakima Valley Community College hosted their 9th annual engineering and chemistry day for middle school students around the valley.

They had around 300 kids filter in and out of the school on Saturday.

Kids were able to participate in over 20 different chemistry and engineering workshops and stations.

One student volunteer told us the event grows each year and it's important to reach out and get kids interested in science at an early age.

“People when they think of stuff like science and mathematics they kind of think of a droll classroom, so we're trying to show them it can be exciting and fun,” Bernabe Delacruz told KNDO.

The event wrapped up around one on Saturday afternoon, but the engineering department at YVCC encourages kids to come down and get involved in many of the other programs they offer through out the year.
