Fireball in the Sky Monday Night was Chinese Rocket Booster

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - It turns out that massive fireball in the sky Monday night was a Chinese rocket booster breaking up as it entered the earths atmosphere, not a meteor as the National Weather Service first reported.

People from Arizona to Canada saw the cluster of weird lights followed by an orange tail streaking across the sky around 10 p.m.

The rocket was used to launch a Chinese satellite back in December.

A spokesman for U.S. Strategic Command says the rocket was not abnormally large, but added that the angle of re-entry and weather conditions can make space objects look brighter from earth.
