YAKIMA, WA -The Yakima Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 1100 Block of Cherry avenue at about 11:15 Wednesday morning.

Firefighters found heavy flames inside the north end of the building and thick smoke coming from the windows. Crews say they were able to knock down the fire quickly but there was a significant amount of smoke, heat and water damage to the house and the contents. It appears half of the home will need reconstruction before it can be lived in again.

A young boy and his grandmother were in the home when the fire started, but both made it out safely. Four adults and four children lived in the house, they are in the care of the Red Cross.

No word on the cause of the fire yet, there is about $90,000 in damage.
