Escaped Inmate from Umatilla County Caught

UPDATE: East Oregonian reports an escaped inmate from Two Rivers Correctional Institution was caught more than 24 hours after he went missing from a 10-man work crew at Finley Buttes Landfill near Boardman.

Hermiston police chief Jason Edmiston confirmed reports that Umatilla County deputies arrested Steven Lee Fox, 49, about 11 a.m. Thursday outside Hermiston near West Gettman Road.

Oregon State Police Lt. Mike Turner of the Pendleton Area Command has also confirmed Fox is in custody. He said the agency will release more details soon.

PREVIOUS/BOARDMAN, OR - The Oregon State Police and Umatilla County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for an inmate who walked away from a work crew near Boardman.

The agency says Steven Lee Fox was working on a ten-man crew Wednesday morning when he was discovered missing.

The 49-year-old was last seen wearing blue jeans with the word "inmate" stenciled on the knee in orange. He was wearing a blue shirt similarly stenciled in orange.

Fox is an inmate at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.

He entered prison a little more than four years ago and his earliest release date is in August 2016. He was convicted in Multnomah County on charges of burglary, robbery and unlawful use of a vehicle. He also has a burglary conviction out of Umatilla County.
