BENTON CITY, WA- The Kiona-Benton School District held a public forum Monday night Benton city to discuss whether or not school administrators can carry firearms.

Residents talked about whether school administrators here should be able to carry firearms at the public forum at Kiona-Benton High School.

It is something other school districts have considered, like Prosser and Toppenish. Kiona-benton has paid close attention to what those districts are doing.

The assistant superintendent wanted to make sure they can hear everyone's voice.

"This is a very emotional topic.  The board is being very careful to make sure that everybody gets a chance to have their input.  They've held several board meetings with that on the agenda.  We're just thinking that an open public forum would give more people the opportunity," said Joe Lloyd, Assistant Superintendent.

In the past meetings, Lloyd said the public opinion has leaned towards a “yes” to certain administrators having firearms.  The board will decide if they will meet next Monday to make a decision.

If the public was not able to make it out to the public forum, they can drop off suggestions to them at any of the schools or their office.
