PASCO, WA- The first ever school based health clinic in the area opened on Wednesday at Ochoa Middle School in Pasco.

With help from a federal grant and Tri-Cities Community Health, students and their siblings will be able to receive basic healthcare at a price they can afford or at no cost.

Nurse practitioners, medical assistants and a receptionist will operate the facility that already started seeing patients on Wednesday.

Joshua Hugegs, who is a Nurse Practitioner at the clinic said, "Little costs to some of us are big costs to other people, so being able to provide those accesses and provide good healthcare, is really near and dear to my heart."

General sports physicals, treatment of minor illnesses and injuries as well as monitoring chronic conditions will all be offered to children nearby. And, books will be stored in both english and spanish for students to read while waiting, or even to take home if they choose.

The next school based clinic at Amistad Elementary in Kennewick, is due to open soon.
